Make Your New Year’s Resolutions a Success

Every year people make New Year’s resolutions, although the success rate of making the resolutions work leaves much to be desired.

It is almost time to say goodbye to 2013 and welcome 2014. There will be parties, fireworks, merrymaking, and wishes for a better year, and the not-obligatory-but-still-otherwise-inevitable New Year’s resolution. Although very few are able to keep their resolutions, statistically just about 8%, it is still something that most people do each year. Are New Year’s resolutions just cliché? Will you be one of those people whose resolution for this year is to not make any resolution at all?  Let us explore some of the ways that will make you successful in achieving your resolutions/goals for this year.

The start of the year is always associated with the opportunity to make a fresh start, for personal improvement and renewal. What you need to make your resolution a success is effective implementation combined with the right attitude. Increase your success level with some of these tips.

Focus on just one resolution

One of the contributors why resolutions fail is the number of resolutions a person wants to accomplish. Even with just two resolutions it can be extremely difficult to give them the right kind of energy and attention as there will always be many changes that will happen throughout the year. You will just be spreading your mental energy thinly if you try to focus on too many resolutions.

Choose the right resolution

This is one of the most difficult phases to get through – determining the right resolution. If you haven’t chosen any yet, start by having a quiet time and clearing your mind. Have pen and paper to write the things you want to change and associate with the phases of your life. It does not have to be a single thing at this stage. Give your mind free rein, list everything that comes to mind and review the list later. Look for the one that stands out. Take your time to think things through.

Visualize

Once you have selected a particular resolution visualize how it would be like when you have attained it, how it will look and feel. Savor all the positive outcomes that go with the accomplishment of your resolution. Keep it in mind or find an image that will very closely resemble it.

Make a formal vow

This is another difficult phase but making a vow is one of the best ways to help you make your resolution a success. Make it a spiritual and personal vow. If you can share it, the more you will be motivated to achieve it as there will be people to remind you about your resolution.

Break it into sub-goals

You have 12 months to achieve your personal goal. Instead of going after the big one at once, it is better to break your resolution into smaller and achievable chunks, which will make it easier for you to accomplish each step each month. Set about making a plan and getting things ready for each phase of your resolution.

Track the progress

Whatever your resolution is, keep track of its progress either by keeping a journal, taking before and after photos or keeping it pencilled in in your list of things to do each day.

Enjoy and celebrate your achievements

As you make progress, learn to enjoy each phase of your accomplishment and celebrate it. Reward yourself for each positive milestone. At the end of the year, announce your success and thank everyone that supported your effort.

Happy New Year and hope this is the best New Year for you!
